Lilies

This body of work began with a project for the Brackenridge Park Conservancy in San Antonio, Texas. As I sketched and painted in the Park, I found myself lost in my work, soon realizing that often people fail to notice what they see everyday. David Hockney said it best, “How can you be bored with nature? Landscape is infinite, isn’t it?”
Whether it be the blades of grass or ripples in the water, nature was inviting me to explore the depth of colors that are often overlooked. These outside spaces become treasures in themselves- my own garden- safe places to sit and breathe. Each time I return I see something different, deeper, and richer- as colors of nature change hour by hour and water sparkles like champagne. When you leave a place, something should stay with you, a fond memory, a feeling of joy urging you to return if only to recapture that magical spell again. I want my work to refresh oneself as if you are transported to somewhere else altogether.
